One of the most loved metal bands of the UK underground, London riff masters Hang The Bastard, have sadly decided to call it a day after almost a decade of shredding and headbanging together.
The full statement from the band, which has been shared on their social media accounts already, is as follows:
“After 9 years, 13 members and 17 bassists, Hang The Bastard are calling time.
We’d like to thank everyone who has helped us out, put on shows, driven us, toured with us, recorded us and drunk with us.
Special thanks goes to Christopher Barling, Sina Namati, Annail Seivad, Chris Pritchard, Steve Sears Jr. and TITAN Studios, Sam Thredder, Ollie Bill Harries, Chris Hill, Nick Searle, Dave Stanley, Mark Scurr, Phil Sanchez, Alex Fitzpatrick and Holy Roar Records, Sam Knight, Tony Boden, Ed Coleman and Secret Law Records, Billie Klein and Century Media Records, all the fill-ins & Aaron Enzo Garzia and Alice Andersen at Never Healed Records.
More than anything we’d like to thank our wives, girlfriends and families past and present for their support and putting up with us!
We will be playing the last of our UK shows over the next few weekends, followed by a short run in Europe and then headlining a stage at the Holy Roar 10th Anniversary show.
We will be planning a proper ‘last show’ after the Summer in London where we’ll be playing songs from our first release up to the most recent.
Thank you all for your support over these years – without people watching us and headbanging we’d be nothing.
Now go back and listen to Slayer and fuckin Black Sabbath.”

With a live pedigree that included showstopping performances alongside the likes of Corrosion Of Conformity, Sylosis, King 810 and Valient Thorr, Hang The Bastard have shown time and again that they deliver where it matters most – in the flesh. Their Download Festival performance in 2013 was one of the highlights of the entire festival as by the end of their set the Pepsi Max Stage was full to bursting. They have also turned in high quality performances at the likes of Sonisphere Knebworth, British Summer Time (supporting their idols Black Sabbath), Bloodstock Open Air, Hevy Fest and Mammothfest to name but a handful.
They were (and are) equally as well loved on record, with the early days of Hellfire Reign making the UK underground sit up and take notice of the sheer force of their music. More recently, their Century Media debut Sex In The Seventh Circle won critical acclaim from the British metal press (and beyond) as well as becoming a favourite with fans new and old alike.
Hang The Bastard’s most recent album Sex In The Seventh Circle is out now via Century Media Records.
